There are these people I know that answer when you call no matter what….
They pick you up and drop you off,
They show up when they say they will,
They listen with no judgment and then take you to where you need to be.
They say what you need to hear, and not what you want to hear.
They shoot from the hip,
They speak the truth,
And serve when asked to serve.
These people that I know cry with you when you are in pain and laugh with you when you are happy.
There are these people I know who walk right into the fire and come out the other end stronger for it.
These people say when they are wrong and they say they are sorry when it is appropriate.
They pray and meditate and give up their ego.
They don’t let themselves get too small or too big and they ask the same from you.
These people I know will sit up all night and talk to you even if they have to get up in the morning for work.
They don’t boast about themselves, but won’t hesitate to celebrate the accomplishments of others.
They do this every day.
At the end of the day, they check to see if they might have caused harm or if they did not. They vow to try harder tomorrow.
These people hug me when I need a hug and smack me into reality too. They do not let me or themselves mask over the truth. Their glasses are clear and shiny. There is no fog that collects over their eyes.
If one becomes deluded the others come together and help him to see reality.
These people will walk through fire, climb the highest mountain, and walk the longest road just to see me succeed. Just to have me free from suffering.
These people are the bravest, strongest people to walk this planet.
These people are my friends. They are the ones who walk the lifelong road of recovery. I would not want to share my life with anyone else. These people are my heart and soul and these people are held by God simply because they allow God to hold them. Every day they give up their power. Every day they give it away. And because of this they are free. And because of this I am free.
